Christie graduated from the College of the Royal Academy of Dance in 1997, with a BA (Hons) degree in the Art and Teaching of Ballet. She started her career as a professional dancer and teacher and at the age of 25 suffered a serious burn injury on both legs. This was when Pilates came into her life. Following her recovery, she trained as a Pilates teacher in New York and certified with Power Pilates USA. She set up her own Pilates studio in Nicosia , where she taught Pilates, Yoga and Ballet fitness until the Covid-19 pandemic changed the way we all work.
In 2007, Christie met Lynne Robinson for the first time in London where she enrolled for the Pilates for Pregnancy Course. Following that acquaintance, she was inspired by Lynne’s progressive work ethos and in 2014, she completed her Conversion Course with Body Control Pilates and obtained her Matwork Certification. In 2016, she passed her Master Matwork Exam.
When the first lockdown was announced in Cyprus in March 2020, Christie closed the doors of her Studio and set up all her classes online the following day! Training men and women of all ages, she takes pride in mixing the authentic, Classical work of “grandpa” Joseph Pilates with the more contemporary approach of Body Control Pilates . She also uses her ballet knowledge and choreographic experience to teach Barre classes and Balletlates, a class that she herself created to mix basic ballet moves with Pilates. She has recently expanded her teaching into the corporate world, teaching people to exercise online, near their desks, as part of their overall wellness. Her motto is “I move therefore I am alive” and for this reason she has named her online business, ‘Move with Christie”
