Pilates for Hypermobility
Hypermobility is the term used to describe the ability to move joints beyond the normal range of movement. For many, joint hypermobility is of no medical consequence and commonly does not give rise to symptoms. Hypermobility can, in fact, be considered an advantage for some, as gymnasts, dancers, swimmers and musicians might be selected because of their extra range of movement. For a small percentage of the population, instead of being advantageous, hypermobility may be associated with joint and ligament injuries, pain, fatigue and other symptoms.
The classes in this collection are designed to help those diagnosed with hypermobility to strengthen specific muscles in order to better support affected joints and to make them more stable, and also to help understand the range of movement which is appropriate for a 'hypermobile' body.
